Alliteration

is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words.  Look for it in these:

"Seaweed" by D.H. Lawrence

Cascara by S.M.(M).L.

So much of what makes us
beautiful is shaped by what
is beneath our skin.  The arch
of our eyebrows, the lift of
our cheek all due to what lies
below.  Skin and bones.

A cascara
 we paint each day,
frame with flowers

and jewels.  But it's the light behind
our eyes, that brings a smile,
not the grinning, teeth-clenched
of a skull, but the smirk of
narrowed lips.

It's our
 humanness
that makes us love and that's even
deeper down than our structure,
something secret, silent, a
sparkle that can silence, a
secret a lover keeps, and a
truth that what is here and now
matters as much as what comes
next.

    S.M.(M).L.

There's a poet in my soul; she's always been there, but is often neglected.  I'm letting her out here.  I hope you will too.  Here's some unsolicited advice:  When your poet speaks to you, just let it out, there's something there, I promise you.  Here you'll find ideas about how to hone your craft as I practice mine and lead you to some of my favorite published poems and poets.
