How I Found: In April the Pulitzer Prize winners are announced and Less was the winner for 2018. The Pulitzer for fiction is awarded to an American writer like Tinkers or To Kill a Mockingbird. Although there are no published guidelines for how winners are selected, they seem to capture some quintessential aspect of American life. In this case, the life of a gay writer whose life hasn't turned out quite as expected. As middle-age approaches, Arthur Less goes on a journey around the world which forces him to look closely at what has become of him: ex-lovers, his worst critics, old friends and new all help him peer into the mirror of his life and realize, "Just for the record: happiness is not bull shit." 
Why You Might Read: If you can't physically travel right now, you will enjoy a variety of sights from Mexico to Germany to India, among others. You will revel in Arthur's discomforts from the comfort of your own reading space, and you will reflect on many of your own life experiences right along with him to discover there is love and happiness in being less than what you thought you should have become.
